Etymology

From the prefix terato- + the suffix -logy. Ultimately from Ancient Greek τέρας (téras, “monster”) + -λογία (-logía, “study of”).

Teratology (usually uncountable)

1. (medicine) The study of congenital abnormalities and malformations, including their development, causes, and biological mechanisms.
